At age 62, Ingibjörg departed from Iceland with her son, Magnús Benjamínsson (age 21). They left from town of Sauðárkrókur in Northern Iceland on the Ship, Camoens, for the first portion of their trip to Scotland. A different ship carried them over the Atlantic Ocean. Ingibjörg joined her daughter, Guðrún Jóhanna Benjamínsdóttir in Garðar, Pembina County, North Dakota in 1886. Guðrún (at age 28) and her husband, Pétur Stefán Guðmundsson (at age 27), had previously moved from Iceland to Garðar, North Dakota in 1883. Ingibjörg, at age 78, subsequently moved with Pétur Stefán and Guðrún to Arborg Manitoba in 1901. Ingibjörg died at age 90 in Arborg, Manitoba. She was buried in the Árdal cemetery, 1 km West of Arborg.
